Plato Quotes!

worry

I wish that worriers, or people who worry, would realize a few simple things...

When you are meeting with a person, the way you approach them will affect their response to you.

When you worry about what the other person is going to do, you project that energy to them. Their decision will be partly based on the worry that you possess.

When trying to predict future events, we can only understand the possibility of an individual event in terms of a percentage. Think about how a weather man predicts the weather [40% chance of rain].

While you can't know for sure what the person will decide, remember that if you expect a certain response, the energetic dynamic will make that response more likely.

Don't worry, understand that there won't be absolute certainty, and your expected outcome will be more likely simply because you are expecting it.

Much Love

Speed it up Dwight!

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5955838

Howard is shooting a horrible percentage and the league is trying to force him to speed up. He refuses because he thinks it will make him shoot with worse form.

Dwight, if you happen to read this: speed it up for your own sake! You're thinking too much! Whatever you're doing is NOT working, so your resistance to change is foolish.

Winning is Contagious

Take a look at these winning streaks. 5 of the 6 Division leaders are in the middle of winning streaks of 5 games or longer including the Heat and Celtics winning 12 and 13 respectively. Mentality can be "contagious." When an athlete or team observes another athlete or team do something, it can lead to them attaining similar feats.

A bit about why sunglasses are cool

Wearing sunglasses makes the wearer appear "cool." Why is this?

The primary reason is that it hinders the collapse of the wave function of the wearer's eye focus. When a person observes a sunglasses wearer, he or she cannot determine if the wearer is observing them or not. Since the person can't determine this, the wavefunction does not collapse, resulting in all possibilities. schroodinger might say that The wearer is both observing the other person and not observing the other person AND NOT observing the other person AND IS observing the other person.

From the sunglasses wearer's perspective, he or she feels more comfortable either looking or not looking at a subject because their observation cannot be observed. (there are cases when the sunglasses wearer believes that $he (he/she) is not able to be observed, when $he actually can be observed and vice versa.

A couple gems for the day

A book that applies quantum theory to social life. Helped me write my thesis.

UPDATE:

Here is a cool glossary of terms relating to waves. The concepts can be applied to the concept of wave functions.

Basketball Out of Bounds

There are a few things that bother me slightly about the dimensions of basketball courts. When it comes to the NBA, my biggest issue is the out of bounds. Second is the sidelines. I wish there was an 8 foot sideline so players could safely create exciting plays.

Second things first...the distance between the sideline and the 3 point line is not big enough. There is a 2 and 1/2 foot space for players to stand. 30 Inches. A bare size 14 foot is 12 inches long. That would give just 9 inches either way to misstep. I've seen too many refs call a spot up shooter out of bounds after getting a pass. Please give them more space.

Now we can address the first thing. They need to give the players more space out of bounds too. As I was watching the Heat play against the Hawks earlier, Dwayne Wade made a great hustle play and saved a ball from going out of bounds, threw it to LeBron, and got the ball back for a layup. It was beautiful to watch. It usually is exciting when a player makes an out of bounds save, but currently it is too dangerous for players to go after every ball.

I'm sure many fans have told and retold the story of when their favorite player landed in their lap after diving for a ball, but why allow the possibility of a player seriously injuring themselves or a fan (probably a rich one with an expensive lawyer since they're in the front row).

Imagine all the exciting plays that could result from players diving onto softly padded out of bounds. I think it would be awesome.
